A plant upgrade can bring temperature, resistance, current and voltage signals into the same project. The Heidelberg Materials France case, presented by PR electronics, shows how one device model was used for different signal conditioning requirements.

The cement plant upgrade context

According to the official Heidelberg Materials case, the French projects required flexible interfaces that were easy to configure for industrial environments exposed to dust, heat and electrical noise. The team selected PR 4114 from PR electronics.

One model, configured for the connected signal

The configurable input accepts temperature, resistance, current or voltage signals. Each device is configured for the signal connected to its input. The common model allows the device to be used in different applications, each with its own configuration.

The output sends a current or voltage signal to the control system. Document the input type, measurement range and output range for each signal path.

Separate supply and matching scaling

Each PR 4114 has a separate power supply. Match the device configuration to the control system scaling so that the displayed value corresponds to the measurement. During integration, follow the input signal, output and supply separately.

Front displays for configuration and diagnostics

Detachable front displays were used in the project for configuration, reading values and diagnostics. PR electronics reports that standardization simplified installation and maintenance and reduced the number of device types used across the plants.

Checks before standardizing

Compare the signals and requirements of each application with the device's capabilities. Document each configuration and check the relationship between input, output and the value in the control system. The results described by the manufacturer relate to the Heidelberg Materials project.
