In a flour silo, a good radar does not work alone.
During pneumatic filling, fine dust and the moving surface complicate measurement, while ATEX requirements leave no room for improvisation.
Based on ATSEN's experience in flour silos in Romania, VEGAPULS C23 works flawlessly, including during pneumatic filling. VEGA also documents the use of C23 at a flour producer for standard measurement points.
A coherent solution has three components:
1. VEGAPULS C23 PSC23.VHXXXFAHB radar level sensor, ATEX configuration
VEGAPULS C23
80 GHz radar for non-contact measurement, in an ATEX/IEC configuration for gas and dust.
2. MBH. PE alignment device for flange mounting
MBH. PE
Provides a movable support for aligning the sensor on the flange.
3. PR 9106B1A intrinsic safety barrier and galvanic isolator, one channel, with display and Modbus RTU communication through the PR 4511 module
PR 9106B1A:
PR 9106B1A
PR 4511:
PR 4511
The barrier powers the two-wire sensor and preserves bidirectional HART communication. Mounted on the front, PR 4511 adds local display, configuration and diagnostics, plus an isolated RS-485 Modbus RTU interface.
Measurement, mounting and loop protection thus become a single functional chain. Final compatibility is confirmed by calculating the Ex parameters of the sensor, barrier and cable.
In silos with pneumatic filling, what more often complicates commissioning: sensor alignment, the Ex loop calculation or Modbus integration?
