Four 4…20 mA measurement loops need to be galvanically isolated from the PLC and from one another.
Where will another device get its power?
Design scenario: follow the paths to the PLC and you reach PR 6185D. The useful detail is that the isolator draws its energy from the measured signals themselves.
PR 6185D from PR electronics:
• galvanically isolates four current channels;
• operates without a separate power supply;
• enables the elimination of ground loops between signal circuits.
The circuit no longer needs a dedicated power supply for the isolator. During sizing, however, the voltage budget of each loop still needs to be checked, including the output load.
In your projects, what more often limits your choice of an isolator: panel space, the voltage budget or ground loops?
