A Pt100 sensor and a PLC input receiving 4–20 mA must use the same relationship between signal and temperature. Selecting the measurement range affects both the converter settings and the value interpreted by the PLC. With PR 3113 from PR electronics, choosing DIP or HART mode also determines the available access to parameters.
Two configuration modes
PR 3113 measures the resistance of the Pt100 sensor and retransmits temperature as 4–20 mA with superimposed HART digital communication. In DIP mode, switches select a precalibrated range, while HART provides read-only access. This approach can be used when the preset range matches the application requirements.
In HART mode, parameters are programmed with a HART 7 compatible instrument, providing read and write access. Before configuration, establish the required range and how the settings will subsequently be checked in the installation.
Connecting the receiver and checking the scale
In both modes, the input, output and power supply are galvanically separated, with no direct electrical connection between these circuits. The device requires a separate supply, for example 24 V direct current (DC). Its active output supplies current to a passive receiver that does not power the loop.
The permitted total load is ≤ 600 Ω; also check the requirements of the HART interface. During commissioning, confirm the selected mode, the actual range and matching PLC scaling. Compare the transmitted value and the receiver's displayed value against the reference points used to check the temperature measurement.
