Myth: a controller for a 4–20 mA signal is just a panel display.
Reality: it can take on clearly defined functions locally at the measurement point.

When the level alarm, pump control and local checks all end up in the central logic, even a simple function depends on the PLC configuration.

VEGAMET 341 receives the signal from a 4–20 mA transmitter and adds three useful functions:
• powers the transmitter, processes the value and displays it locally, with a 0/4–20 mA output;
• has three relays for limits and pump control; one can instead be used as a fault relay;
• allows local adjustment using a rotary/push button, and configuration or diagnostics via smartphone.

It does not automatically replace the PLC. It does, however, clarify which functions are worth keeping locally and which should be centralized.

In your projects, what would you keep close to the measurement point: the limit alarm, pump control or diagnostics?
